Barnes, Glover tied for Open lead Tiger 7 back
The final round of the U.S. Open has been suspended, and not a
moment too soon for Ricky Barnes. Barnes had a one-shot lead over
Lucas Glover after 54 holes in the rain-plagued championship, but
it didnt last long. Teeing off in the fourth round Sunday evening,
Barnes made bogey on the first hole, then hit his tee shot into
gnarly rough on No. 2. They were tied at 7-under par, still five
shots clear of everyone else.
Ricky Barnes Maintains Lead at Bethpage
by Shane BaconFiled under: US OpenAdmit it ... as a golf fan that
has watched a few U.S. Opens, you dont think Ricky Barnes can win
this thing. You know youre thinking it. Im thinking it. Others in
the field are thinking it. The only problem with that theory is the
one guy that needs to think that doesnt seem to have that thought
in his head at all.The 28-year-old Barnes, who lives in Scottsdale
and has never won a professional tournament and has made exactly
two cuts ever in majors, played the third round of the U.S. Open
like he was out at Arizona National, hacking it around with fellow
Wildcat Chris Nallen. Sure, he made some bad swings tossed in the
round, but its Bethpage Black and youre not supposed to find all
those tight fairways. Barnes, currently 8-under with a one shot
lead over...
More rain possible at Bethpage, Glover shoots 64
With more storms bearing down on Bethpage Black, Lucas Glover
returned looking quite comfortable leading the U.S. Open. Not bad,
considering hes never before made the cut in the seasons second
major championship. Glover finished a six-birdie, no-bogey second
round of 6-under 64 Saturday morning, putting him in a tie for the
lead at that point with Mike Weir and former U.S. Amateur champion
Ricky Barnes. Weir, the first-round leader, and Barnes both had
four holes left to play.
Ricky Barnes Leads US Open Through 2 Rounds, Monsoons on the Way
by Ryan WilsonFiled under: US OpenRicky Barnes won the U.S. Amateur
in 2002, and was the low amateur at the 2003 Masters, T-21, playing
with Tiger Woods in the first two rounds. In the six years since,
hes bounced between the Nationwide and PGA Tours, but through 36
holes at the 109th U.S. Open at Bethpage Black, hes the best golfer
on the property. Hitting 90 percent -- 90 PERCENT! -- of the
greens, and going 6-under on the par-4 holes doesnt hurt.In fact,
his three-day, 132 total 8-under sets the tournament record for a
low score through two rounds. Lucas Glover, who had missed his
three previous U.S. Open cuts is one shot behind Barnes. Mike Weir
is at 6-under and the second-best story this week behind Phil
Mickelson who is currently 1-under and tied for 11th , David Duval,
is tied for ...
US Open Goes to Monday Finish, Ricky Barnes Clings to Lead
by Ryan WilsonFiled under: PGA, US OpenFor 54 holes, Ricky Barnes
was the best golfer on the planet. And then, in the few hours
between his third and final round at the 109th U.S. Open, something
happened. Maybe he finally realized that this was Bethpage Black
and not some podunk Nationwide stop. Or maybe his luck just ran
out. It happens, especially to guys who have spent the previous six
years trying to live up to expectations. After getting to 11-under
early Sunday, and leading by as many as six strokes, Barnes came
back to the field and begin his final 18 at 8-under, just one shot
clear of Lucas Glover.US Open Goes to Monday Finish, Ricky Barnes
