like Tiger Woods, the end of the round is when your knees start
a-knockin. Your hands clam up, your brow starts sweating and youre
not exactly sure what you did right the first 14 holes. On Friday
at Bethpage Black, in what was the second day of the first round of
the U.S. Open say that five times fast, Tiger rolled in a birdie
putt on the 14th to get back to even par. On a golf course known
more for curse words and broken hearts than birdie opportunities,
even par is a number players would be thrilled with given the
current conditions overtaking Long Island. But for Woods on Friday,
even par was hopeful thinking that only lasted for those first 14
holes. More Coverage: Live US Open Leaderboard First Round at US

Too Little, Too Late for Tiger Woods
by Shane BaconFiled under: PGA, US OpenThey say you cant win a golf
tournament on the first day, but you sure can lose it. Tiger Woods
is usually the best in the business at that, meticulously plotting
his way on Thursdays to avoid shooting himself out of the
tournament early. This week at Bethpage Black, Tiger couldnt do
that, and it probably will cost him this championship. A second
round 69 was improvement, but not nearly enough to get himself back
in a U.S. Open that, if you werent paying close enough attention,
is playing more like the Bob Hope. Woods hit the ball a lot better
in his second round which concluded at 2:54 PM ET on Saturday, but
he couldnt get any putts to drop, including a par putt on his last
hole that went begging. It was the second straight day Tiger
bogeyed his fina...
No Rest For Tiger, Monday Practice Round at Bethpage Black
by Shane BaconFiled under: PGA, US OpenYoud think even Tiger Woods,
renowned grinder and practice nut, would take a day off after he
scorched Muirfield Village on Sunday on his way to his fourth win
at the Memorial, but you, sir, would be wrong. On Monday, Tiger and
swing coach Hank Haney took a quick trip from Ohio to New York for
a practice round at Bethpage Black, host of the U.S. Open in two
weeks and site of Tigers 2nd U.S. Open victory. The course that
some claim is the toughest test of golf has been lengthened to
7,426 yards and will play a touch different than when it hosted its
inaugural U.S. Open.No Rest For Tiger, Monday Practice Round at

Tiger Fires 63 in Second Round of Buick Open, Climbs Up Leaderboard

by Will BrinsonFiled under: PGA, Golf Odds and Ends

Remember when Bacon told you yesterday that Tiger Woods' career was
finished and that he should look into finding a new line of work*
after he shot an unimpressive 71 in the first round of the Buick
Open? Well, that was probably premature. That's because Tiger came
out with guns a-blazing on Friday and fired a nine-under 63
(currently the low round of the day so far) to put himself just two
strokes back of leader-in-the-clubh...

Tiger Finishes Even Par, Likely Out of Contention For Open Title
by Will BrinsonFiled under: Golf, US OpenTiger Woods didnt fire off
his best round Monday in the 2009 US Open, but he didnt shoot
poorly either, wrapping up with a 69 that left him at even par for
the tournament. Unfortunately for Tiger, a three-bogeyfour-birdie
round probably wont be enough to land him in any potential playoff
for consecutive Open titles.Thats not to say that the leaders arent
falling back -- Phil Mickelson, David Duval, Ross Fisher and Lucas
Glover arent up a substantial margin on Tiger, but at this point,
it seems pretty unlikely that Woods will have a shot at any playoff
that takes place.Tiger Finishes Even Par, Likely Out of Contention
